Whether you want a dog that is a well-behaved companion at home or want to compete in sanctioned events, SEELAH has classes for you and your dog. Seelah is a Russian word meaning "power". At SEELAH, we believe the power is in a positive approach to training. Respect, rewards, and PRAISE, and more PRAISE! These and the most up-to-date training methods are the tools that our trainers teach you to use.

SEELAH’s experienced trainers have trained at area obedience clubs and pet care facilities and boast titles such as CD, CDX, UDX, OTCH pts, TD, TDX AX, OAJ, and CHAMPION. They have earned degrees on their dogs in the levels in which they instruct.

Training classes are ongoing at SEELAH with new classes starting every few weeks. Specialty classes are being added all the time. Call (515) 993-3912 for information and to reserve a spot.

PUPPY CLASS

• 6 weekly one-hour classes on Tuesday nights
• Puppies ages 10 weeks to 5 months

This class will help owners get their young and impressionable puppy off to the right start.  Early experiences have a powerful influence on the puppy’s adult life.  The purpose of the class is to teach your puppy the basic skills needed to grow into an obedient, mannerly and happy adult dog.

BASIC OBEDIENCE CLASS

• 8 weekly one-hour classes on Monday nights
• Dogs 5 months of age or older

This is a beginner’s class to help owners train their dogs in the basic obedience skills such as walking on a leash, sit, stay, lie down and come. These skills will help the dog develop good manners and become the companion dog the owner and family dreamed of having. This class is also the foundation for further obedience training.

ADVANCED BASIC CLASS

• 8 weekly one-hour classes on Thursday nights
• Basic Obedience skills required

Advanced basic class builds on the skills learned in Basic Obedience and prepares dogs for better control at home and covers the elements needed for AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate.

CONFORMATION CLASSES

• 4 weekly one-hour classes on Wednesday evenings

This class is designed to introduce and improve on dog and handler skills for competing in conformation events.

AGILITY CLASSES

• 4 weekly one-hour classes Beginners on Tuesday and Advanced on Wednesday nights

This class prepares the dog and handler for agility competitions and having fun with your dog.

The following classes are added as needed:

• 8 weekly one-hour classes on Thursday nights
• Basic Obedience skills required

This class teaches you how to get your dog's focus for competitive events.

Bring to class: your dog and your family (if you want). Your dog should be on a 4 or 6 foot regular leash, not an extendable or "flexi" type leash. Leash material should be leather, canvas or nylon, not chain or cable. The collar should be a training collar, flat nylon or leather collar (that is fitted so that it cannot be pulled over the dog’s head and ears).

Please explain to your children this is school for the dogs and we need everyone to pay attention and sit quietly. Also bring your questions to ask the instructors.

Bring your dog’s favorite treats to use for training in class. Treats should be tiny (size of a pea or smaller) and very interesting to your dog. We will have some examples. If you "free feed" your dog, please pick up the food bowl the day of class so your dog will be hungry and pay attention in class.
